Department of English and Humanities

English and Humanities is an interdisciplinary department that offers majors in English Literary Studies, Philosophy, Professional Writing, Secondary Education English, Spanish, and Spanish Education. Our department helps you to develop your reading, writing and critical thinking skills, and we help you to develop your oral and written communication skills as well. Our majors provide an excellent foundation for success in future careers, graduate school or professional schools. Our teacher-training programs provide you with the knowledge and skills that will make you an effective and successful teacher.

Kurowski Quoted in New York Times Blog

Travis Kurowski, Ph.D., Creative Writing coordinator, who blogs about literary magazines at Luna Park Review, was recently quoted in a post titled "Literary Heirs" in Style Magazine from the Sunday New York Times.

Film Series

The Film Series provides a forum for a serious discussion about movies. The series involves the screening of three movies each semester. The screenings are introduced by a faculty member, a guest lecturer, or movie director, who leads a discussion after the screening. Learn more.

Humanities Lecture Series

The Humanities Lecture Series brings prominent scholars to York College to discuss topics within their areas of specialty. Guest lecturers meet with students during the day and deliver a lecture in the evening. The writer-in-residence does a reading and lecture, visits classes, meets with students, and conducts a workshop.
